About this event

Sunday July 12, 9:30 - 11:00. Stopping English Ivy. We will tackle a growing patch of invasive English Ivy in two ways: halting its expansion using cardboard covered with woodchips, and physically removing it from a small area near the trail. Meet: Paterson near Nisbet St. The work site is inside the park near this entrance. Please bring your own water and insect repellent, and wear closed-toed shoes. We have gloves available. Tools to bring (or we can supply them): pointed shovel, hand clippers, garden fork, small spade. Thursday July 16, 9:30 - 11:00 Erosion Control. We will stake straw bales along a sensitive bluff edge to hold soil and leaves in place. Meet: Loring Ave near President Ave. Please bring your own water and insect repellent, and wear closed-toed shoes. Tools to bring (or we can supply them): claw hammer or 1-3 lb sledgehammer. --------------------------------------------- We work spring through fall in Blackstone Park Woods and on Blackstone Boulevard. Our volunteers fix trails, care for trees and shrubs and plant new ones, protect steep slopes from damaging storms, and more. Join us once or often as we spend time outdoors, get some exercise, and share the joy of contributing to these special places. We already have park-keeping dates planned through next fall, with more to come.
